Monday Missive

Sorry for the late email - I'm currently in the UK and have been a wee bit busy.

Last weekend was the postponed two day dhow run by Lisa as well as a trip out on Sanaf kindly run by ExSL Stuart - thanks very much both.

We tried to arrange an Energy Determination dive for this coming weekend but I understand that the weather is not looking too good - Oh well maybe next time.

(Nice) SteveH is still organising Fast Boats and Dhows so please let him know if you're interested. There is a Fast Boat planned for 3rd July with limited spaces left - this is excellent diving so grab the chance whilst you can! As he points out: "'You Know It Makes Sense'!! The Whale Sharks are waiting, so don't disappoint them."

I'll be whizzing along at altitude in a large aluminium tube instead of being at Monday's regular meet up at the Trade Centre Apartments. Have fun and I'll hopefully catch up with you soon.

Cheers, Chris

Hiya All,

well the cyclone put paid to any ideas of diving so I hope you all had a great weekend occupying yourselves in different ways :-(

This coming Friday our lovely ex-Supreme Stuart has offered to take Sanaf out from Dubai... sign-ups tomorrow night at 8pm as usual.

Steve Harris is still drumming up business for Fast Boats and Dhows - please let him know if you're interested. The water in the Musandam is a perfect temperature and the visibility has been great. Whalesharks and Mola Mola have been spotted so grab the chance whilst you can.

On another note EDA (Emirates Diving Association) are showing the Sea Shepherd film "Shark Cull" tomorrow night - details below:

EDA MOVIE NIGHT WITH VOX CINEMAS
THE SHARK CULL – A SEA SHEPHERD DOCUMENTARY

Sea Shepherd Dubai and EDA are hosting a screening of 'The Shark Cull', a Sea Shepherd documentary on the Western Australian shark cull, exposing the brutal cruelty of the controversial program that took place off the WA Coastline last summer. This explosive documentary on the Western Australians drum line policy is a must see for anyone interested in the protection of sharks and marine conservation.

There will be an opportunity to learn more about Sea Shepherd's current campaigns throughout the world, sign up as an on shore volunteer here in Dubai, get your latest Sea Shepherd Merchandise and lots more!

WHEN: Monday, 15th June, 2015
WHERE: VOX Cinemas, Mall of the Emirates
.
TIME: 19:00 Registration | 19:30 Documentary Begin

For those that are considering bringing young children, please note that there are scenes of sharks being shot with a powerhead and being brought onto a boat ramp bleeding. Parental guidance and viewer discretion is advised.

We look forward to seeing you all. Please register yourselves by email.
Have a great week,

The EDA Team

Please go and support this if you're able. It's a harrowing film but we all need to be active in preventing the massacre of sharks globally.

Hopefully catch up with you tomorrow evening. Cheers, Chris

Well I'm afraid that the weather defeated us on Friday so we didn't get out on Sanaf - not really a surprise as it was blowing up a storm. However on the Good News front we now have four more people licensed to take Sanaf out as well as the owners:

Angela M

Petra W

Danny C

Martin T

Thanks very much to Stuart and Haris in obtaining the necessary paperwork... now we just need someone able (and willing) to tow her to the harbour :-)

Any DMs wanting to run dives on Sanaf this week (12th/13th) or next week (19th/20th) please let me know.

This weekend is the three day dhow in the Musandam and I believe there's one space still available - contact Lisa for details but do it quickly as today is the last chance to join.

Steve Harris has offered the following dives over the coming months - please let him know if you're interested:

Please take note of the following Musandam trips, I will need to get sufficient numbers to be able to book the boat.

ONE DAY DHOW or FAST BOAT - JUNE 26th

ONE DAY DHOW or FAST BOAT - JULY 3rd

Please indicate what you prefer on what date, then I can book the boat accordingly, if we have enough people, we need:

8 People for Fast Boat

16-20 People for Dhow Trip

The committee has decided to increase the cost, this will enable us to run the boats with fewer people, the new prices are as follows:

FRIDAY DHOW

AED 250 Club Member Diving

AED 350 Guest Diving

AED 150 Student/Guest Non Diving

FAST BOAT

AED 300

The weekly meeting this week at the World Trade Centre Apartments from about 7:30 - dives posted from 8pm - hopefully we'll see you there.

Finally Angela has asked me to circulate the following information from the Natural History Group in Dubai:

Could you forward the attached message to DSDC members. The DNHG lecture is next Sunday.  It is free to attend. Location - Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management - maps attached.

NHG June Lecture on "South Africa's Great White Sharks"

The Dubai Natural History Group will hold its June meeting at the Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management (opposite Wild Wadi) on Sunday 7th June 2015  at 7.15 p.m. for 7.30 p.m.  Our speaker, Dott. Alessandro De Meddalena will present an illustrated talk entitled "South Africa’s Great White Sharks”.   Please see attached flier for more information.

Visitors and new members are welcome. The contact number for the meeting is 394-8871

Please note start time of lecture which will be held in the Auditorium of the Emirates Academy of Hospitality Management and not in our usual Lecture Theatre.

To reach the Auditorium, with the building facing you, enter through the door to the right of the main entrance.  There will be a notice on the door saying DNHG meeting.

Sounds like a very interesting talk as is usual from the group.

Cheers, Chris
